Emma Sproson

Emma Sproson or ‘Red Emma’ as she was known in the Wolverhampton press was our great aunt. Born Emma Lloyd, she joined the ranks of the suffragettes at an early age, She was briefly imprisoned for her activities but continued to campaign for woman’s suffrage. She later became the first woman to serve on Wolverhampton Council and a blue plaque bares her name at the town hall.
